CHTU Update - October 5, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your continued commitment to our students and for filling in where necessary while we work through the sub-crisis.  We are aware of the unacceptable situations that are happening in all of our buildings.  Elementary specials/UA are being canceled, elementary teachers are being denied payment for teacher absences in pull-out situations, and the continued loss of planning time at all levels is severely damaging to staff morale. We have proposed an LOU with creative ways to utilize our staff to alleviate some of the substituting strain on our staff.

Logo Contest Winner

Congratulations to Angelique Troy, Monticello Middle School Art Teacher, for winning our CHTU Logo Contest!  Angelique wins $100 and an article of clothing from our Union Made shop for winning the contest.   Thank you to everyone who submitted a logo, and also to everyone who voted in the contest.  We will be hosting an apparel sale with our new logo soon.

Make-a-Wish

The kick-off event for Make-a-Wish took place this past weekend.  Thank you to everyone who came to the zoo and participated in the Walk-for-Wishes.  It was a beautiful day to support a great cause. We have been matched with a Wish Child.  We are waiting to find out more information, but we are so excited to be able to grant another wish.  Please consider donating to our campaign if you have not done so already (link).

CHTU Speaks at Board Meeting

Karen Rego, Tiffiny Underhile, Betsy Race, and Tamar Gray will be speaking at the Board of Education meeting tonight regarding the district’s inability to secure substitutes.  If you would like to watch the Board Meeting, you can do so here.  The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00.

Virtual Happy Hour

We made the decision to cancel our TUSH (Teachers Union Social Hour) due to Covid.  We would still like to have a social event with our membership, so we are pleased to announce that we will have a Virtual Happy Hour on Friday, October 22 from 5-6.  We will have a raffle of treats for the happy hour prior to the event so that you can win some goodies to enjoy while we socialize.  Every CHTU member will receive one raffle ticket entry. If you are a new hire and you have not signed your membership card yet please connect with your building steward.  Raffle tickets will also be given for:
