CHTU Summer Update #1 - June 14, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you have had some time to relax this summer.  We have some legislative  updates that affect teaching for all of us.  Please read below regarding these updates.  July is one of the months with 3 pays.  This means that the third pay of the month will not have any deductions.

House Bill 616

House Bill 616 is the third censorship bill imported into Ohio that prohibits and restricts how race, racism, sexual orientation, and gender identity are acknowledged, taught, and discussed in Ohio K-12 schools.  Thursday there will be a rally opposing HB 616 on the steps of the statehouse in Columbus.  Please click on this link to learn more if you plan on attending.

House Bill 99

House Bill 99, recently signed into law by Governor Dewine, allows staff to carry a concealed gun with as little as 24 hours of training.  Our Board, with the support of CHTU, wrote a resolution in opposition to this bill.  If you would like to read the resolution you can find it here.
