CHTU Update 7/7/20

CHTU Update 7.7.20

Dear Colleagues,

Summer is going by fast.  We have already seen the 4th of July come and go.  So much is happening with preparations going into next year and negotiations .  We wanted to update you on what we have been working on so you can begin to plan financially and professionally.

Covid Survey:

The district sent out a survey to all staff about returning to school next month.  We want our members to complete a survey so we know what our members need and want.  Use this link to go to the CHTU return to school survey.  We have some questions to ask that did not appear in the district survey that we think are important.

Salary Notices:

Apparently steps were not given on this year’s salary notice.  We were hoping this was done in error, but it was not.  We believe it was a deliberate attempt by the administration to force what they want for our salary schedule next year. If a successor agreement is not ratified before the start for the year, then we would expect our expired contract to still be in place.  This is completely unacceptable and we are in the process of looking at our options to fight this injustice.

Board Meeting:

At tonight’s Board of Education meeting the District will present its draft plan for the 2020/2021 school year.  The meeting is virtual and you can log onto the youtube page to watch.  If you would like to be part of the public comments, you will need to sign up ahead of time using this form. They will call you when it is your turn to comment.  Remember to follow these guidelines when speaking at the Board meeting.

Members being recommended for Termination:

As of right now, the Board is not acting tonight on either of our members.  Thank you to all of you who wanted to speak on their behalf.  We hope that the District makes the right decision for both our members.  We will update you as we know more.

In Union,

Karen Rego

CHTU President
