CHTU Update - February 9, 2012

March Deadlines. Please be sure to note the following contractually mandated dates that apply to members of our bargaining unit.
·March 1st: Deadline for members who are eligible (10 years service in CH-UH and 30 years or less in STRS) to receive the $24,000.00 retirement incentive to notify the Board of Education of their intention to retire at the end of the school year. We will prepare the necessary letters and assist members with STRS paperwork.
·March 1st: Deadline for members who are interested in job sharing to submit their proposals to the Board of Education.
·March 20th: Deadline for filing all necessary credentials and transcripts for eligibility for continuing contract status (tenure) with the Board of Education.
Income Disability & Life Insurance. From time to time we receive inquiries from members asking for the specifics of our group income disability and life insurance policies. Both policies are carried by Sentry Insurance and administered by the Union. Here are the details:
The Income Disability Plan provides payments of $300 per month after a 30-day exclusion period for members who are unable to work due to an extended illness or injury. Payments are doubled while hospitalized and continue for as long as the member is disabled and/or is approved for STRS disability retirement. Our group life insurance coverage continues in effect during the entire period of total disability. These benefits continue until age 70 and are in addition to State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) disability benefits. Contact the Union Office if you have a claim.
The Board carries $63,000 of life insurance on all members of the bargaining unit ($31,500 for those employed less than 3/8 time).
