CHTU Update - September 13, 2019 House Tour, Make a Wish , and Sick Leave

Dear Colleagues,

Happy Friday the 13th - and we get a full moon!

House Tour:  the Height Heritage House Tour is this Sunday.  If you want to join our volunteers and get a chance to see the other houses contact T_Reynolds@chuh.org

Make A Wish:  We have been paired with a Heights Freshman who has Sickle Cell Anemia and has undergone a bone marrow transplant.  Please donate or join one of our teams.  Go to our company page:  http://site.wish.org/goto/CHTU and scroll down to join a team or donate through one of the participants.  You can also learn more about the teenager we are sponsoring. Our goal is to raise $10,000.  Thanks in advance for helping out.

Sick Leave:  The missive of the week stated that employees who take sick leave without having any accrual were stealing from the district.  There are several places in our contract that disagree with this notion, starting with the fact that teachers who exhaust sick leave shall be put on medical leave - which is unpaid.  There is also no mention that our members who start the year with fewer than 10 days of sick leave can have days advanced so that they have at least 10 days.  Considering the moving target of whether or not sick leave balances are even correct on pay stubs this was a little disturbing to read.  Unsolicited advice - it is better to save as many sick days as possible and only use them when you really need them, but sometimes even the best laid plans are impossible.

Have a great weekend.
In Union,
Ari Klein
CHTU President
