CHTU - April 30, 2019

Dear Colleagues,

By today everyone should have a tentative assignment for next year.  One member is being RIFd on account of the elimination of some positions.  Overall, we expect to have close to the same number of bargaining unit positions next year and hope that our RIFd member will be recalled as soon as possible.  We have a consensus statement in our contract that recognizes the importance of stability in assignment.  It reads:

Stability in assignment must be balanced with the District’s need to be nimble when ensuring positions are filled with people who possess the proper licensure. When a teacher has more than two changes in assignment and/or building that are outside of their preferences within a five year period, the teacher has a right to request a meeting to discuss the effects of these changes with their immediate supervisor and/or the Assistant Superintendent – Human Resources and Operations. At the meeting the teacher has the right to Union representation.

Please see your building steward or an officer if you would like representation in such a meeting.  We know of cases that are much more extreme than two changes in five years and we believe it is important for administration to understand how difficult it is to learn a whole set of new standards, move classrooms or buildings, or be placed in a position for which you have no training or experience even if licensed.

Spring Social - May 3 @4:00 at Nighttown.  Come and show up, bring at least $10 for raffle tickets if you did not send money in ahead of time.  Enjoy live music, lots of food, our basket raffle to benefit a Heights senior scholarship, and soclalize with colleagues from across the district.
