CHTU Update 11/17/2022

Dear Colleagues,

Please read the following updates.

IMPACT Employee Assistance
The holiday season is often joyous, but for many of us, it can be an extremely difficult time.  This year may be even more difficult when you add in the effects of the global pandemic and extreme student behaviors we have been dealing with for the past 2+ years.

The CH-UH Employee Assistance Program through IMPACT Solutions is a benefit that is free to all employees of our district.  IMPACT can connect members who need assistance with the correct information, resources, and referrals.  Services include access to short-term counseling and a wide range of offerings that include financial consultation to personal assistant services.  The IMPACT program is available to you and your family members 24 hours a day.  To reach an IMPACT counselor call 1-800-227-6007.  For more information, please click here.

Union Plus
Have you signed up for Union Plus?  Union Plus offers member-only discounts and corporate rates on everything from pizza and the zoo, to movie tickets, car rentals, and hotels!  Membership is free to AFT members.  You need your AFT member number (found on your CHTU membership card) to enroll.  Union Plus recently sent out Thanksgiving savings specials from Whirlpool, Hello Fresh, Walt Disney World, and more.  Members can sign up here.

200 Day Employees
We were recently informed that some of our 200-day employees were told to customize absences to the length of their normal work day.  This information is not accurate.  200-day employees should put in for a full day absence when entering absences into AESOP, which will total 7.5 hours.  Teachers accrue 1.25 days per month, no matter how many days are on one's contract, which means a one day absence is calculated the same for all teachers.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Enrollment
As we near the end of the month, you should receive an email from Denise Toney for  FSA enrollment for next year.  A Flexible Spending Account allows you to have pre-tax payroll deductions for health care related expenses that are not covered or reimbursed by insurance.  Childcare/Eldercare expenses are also covered under our FSA.  You can set aside up to $2,750 for health care as well as $5,000 for childcare/eldercare.  The amount you elect to set aside is divided over 24 pays, and the deduction is pre-tax.  Enrollment for our FSA program is in the first two weeks of December.

CHTU will be hosting an FSA/Benefits refresher on Tuesday, November 29 at 4:30 p.m.  If you would like to attend this virtual meeting, please join us by using this zoom link.

In Solidarity,

Karen Rego
CHTU President
