CHTU Update 9/2/2022

Dear Colleagues,

If you are feeling anything like I am, you are ready for a 3 day weekend, especially after enduring the temperatures in many of our buildings.  There seems to be two extremes: 40 degrees or 90 degrees.  I will never understand why climate control can’t be a priority in our schools.

Salary Step Advancement
If you took coursework over the summer please submit your credit hours to HR by September 15 for salary credit. Do you expect to be eligible for a continuing contract (tenure) this year by completing coursework before March 20? Let your supervisor know, even if your official transcripts are not available by March 20 . There is no application for tenure if you are eligible . Need to check the requirements?  Check out the final question on our general FAQ (link here)

Heritage House Tour
We need help staffing a house for the Heights Heritage Tour on September 18 from 12-3.  Work part of the day and get a free ticket.  Great fun.  Interesting houses and gardens.  Raises money for the Heights Community Congress, a local organization dedicated to fair housing and related concerns.  Email Tina Reynolds (T_Reynolds@chuh.org)if you can help out.

Substitute Duties
It’s that time of year when substitutes are needed, and once again the pool of subs does not seem to be large enough.  This means that our members often have to cover classes.  Our contract states:
“Before an elementary/secondary teacher is asked to assume the assigned responsibilities of another teacher, the building principal will seek volunteers where there are no teachers who have planning time beyond the contractual planning time minutes. If there are no volunteers, a teacher may be assigned.”  The pay rates are the same as last year, as our LOU has been extended through this year.
$15 for 5-25 minutes
$33 for 26-50 minutes
$170 for a whole day
