CHTU Update - Feb 25, 2019 - This week

Dear Colleagues,

A few reminders:
1)  Red T-Shirt pre-orders are due this week. We will be putting an order in on Thursday.

Link here to order you T-Shirt using paypal (LINK)

Link here for the paper order form if using cash or a check (LINK)

2)  Tuesday, Feb 26 at 7 pm at the CHUH Main Library on Lee Road.  We would like to fill the seats at a meeting called by a Koch funded group that encourages families to use vouchers.  We need to send a message that these kinds of groups don't belong here.  Vouchers take needed money away from the students we serve.  More voucher students equals a harder time to get support for our schools and our students.

3)  Friday, March 1 after work - Join us at Boss Dog Brewery on Lee Road for a Teachers Union Social Hour.  We will order up a bunch and snacks.  Cash bar. Great way to end a PD day with your colleagues.

4)  Send money to the Summit Academy Solidarity Fund to support underpaid and overworked striking teachers.  21 of 24 teachers are starting their second week of the strike in support of better teaching conditions at this charter school that is represented by OFT.  Several officers heard from one of the teachers at a leadership conference Friday night in Columbus and it was appalling what becomes normal if you don't know it is unacceptable.  No regular planning or lunch.  Cleaning the building.  No substitutes so everyone just covers everyone else.  They are not even asking for a raise, just a contract, even though the most experienced teachers are earning less than $40k!   Make a donation to the Solidarity Strike Fund through the Ohio Federation of Teachers online (link) or send cash or check made out to "Summit Academy Solidarity Fund" and we will deliver it.

In Union
