CHTU Update - February 24, 2014

Here are several events and activities to consider participating in coming up.  There is something for everyone here.

March 21 - Union Banquet.  Info to come in hard copy for banquet reservations soon, BUT if you want to stay overnight there is a block of rooms available for $119 (plus taxes).  Includes a full cooked-to-order breakfast.  Reserve your room by February 28  by calling Embassy Suites 800.317.1960.

March 5 - Action Session follow up from our Community Book Discussion.  Help decide what we are going to do with our coalition partners to support public education.  Meet from 7-9 in the high school Social Room.  http://chtu.oh.aft.org/news

March 7 - Extended nominations deadline for the Tom Schmida Award.  We are looking for teachers who meet the criteria listed in the linked article - http://chtu.oh.aft.org/chtu-updates/tom-schmida-award .  Email nominations to office@chtu.org 

March 8 - Patriots for Change forum on "Race to the Top, Are our Public Schools in Danger?"  Speakers include Rep. Mike Foley, retired school psychologist Lois Romanoff, and our own Tom Schmida.  Meet at Hamlet Hills Retirement Community Club House from 10-noon.  http://www.patriotsforchange.net/

March 12 - Reaching Heights Spelling Bee.  Cheer on our team in the annual event.  7 PM in the high school auditorium.

March on March 15 - Join in the No Cuts Coalition demanding extension of unemployment insurance, restore food stamp cuts, and raising the minimum wage.  Gather at Market Square Park across from the West Side Market at noon.  March to St. Malachi's school hall at 2459 Washington Ave in Cleveland.  Bring ready to eat food for a community meal if you can.  More info 216.881.7200
