Remember those calamity days we used? Well, we are probably going to have make them up. The state allows for school districts to use 5 days, but anything over that needs a plan. The good news is that we have a plan, the bad news is that no one will like it. As far as I know the plan has never been used, but there is always a first time.
The plan we have always had in place has always appeared on the District calendar. It states that days to be used to reschedule classes are Martin Luther King Jr Day, Presidents’ Day, Spring Break Recess Compensatory Day (which is the Monday after Easter), Memorial Day, and/or June 6.
Right now all schools will need to make up 2 days. Boulevard 3 days, and Noble 4 days. The legislature has not yet come to consensus about adding extra calamity day, so we have no idea what they will decide. They are not likely to change things until mid-March.
Today Superintendent McDaniel and I discussed this issue and have requested a little more information before a final decision is proposed to the Board. Until then, I suggest that you may want to hold off on making new plans for April 21, May 26 or June 6. For those of you who already know there is no way you can change your plans to attend school on one of these days I suggest that wherever possible you save any personal days that you have to cover them.
We will let you know more as soon as we know more.

Ari Klein
