CHTU Update - May 7, 2019

Dear Colleagues,

Thanks to everyone who helped put a raffle basket together or bought raffle tickets at our social on Friday.  We raised over $1,250 for our Glenn Altschuld Scholarship for a Heights Senior intending to go into education.

We honored two members.
School Social Worker Josephine Shelton-Townes with the Ellen Krebs award and Middle School Teacher Tiffiny Underhile with the Tom Schmida Award.

Josephine is active participant in many different venues.  She serves as an officer of the local, president of the credit union board, is an ER&D instructor, also facilitates training with the OFT, among many other activities.  Josephine is dependable and brings a steady voice to all her different activities.

Tiffiny is a strong building steward and a committed and innovative teacher.  She has provided great learning opportunities for our students inside and outside of the classroom.  She instills a love for science in our students and has a great rapport with students.

We also recognized our three top COPE (Committee On Political Education) contributing schools.  Canterbury had the greatest percentage of members contributing followed by Fairfax and Roxboro Middle School.  Our collective COPE dollars go to support Ohio candidates who align with our beliefs in education.  If you are interested in contributing as little as $1 per pay for COPE please contact a building steward for a form.  Every dollar counts.

Other members to thank:
Thanks to our Reaching Heights Spelling team - Laura Lorek, Diana Neal, Tammy Heldman.  The bee was tough this year.  We lost in the third round like many other teams with words like:  dhow, cachinnation, syce, meerschaum, ixodid, quirt, obelus, and axolotyl. The Heights library team defended their championship.  It is not too early to start studying for next year!

In Union,
Ari Klein, CHTU President
Karen Rego, CHTU Vice-President
