Dear Colleagues,
We were just informed that former Cleveland Heights Teachers Union President Glenn Altschuld passed away. Glenn served as President of Local 795 from 1970 to 1990. During his tenure in office, CHTU became the exclusive bargaining agent for teachers and support staff in CH-UH. Throughout his presidency, Glenn was relentless in negotiating contracts that secured fair wages, excellent benefits and optimal working conditions. In addition, he served in key leadership positions with the Ohio Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers and the AFL-CIO. Glenn was truly a trailblazer of the teachers’ union movement, and his impact remains embedded in the language of our contract. We have lost a great teacher, mentor, and dedicated unionist. Our deepest sympathies go out to Glenn’s family, friends, and former colleagues.
The family is planning a memorial service for Glenn. Details will be forthcoming.
