CHTU Update - March 5, 2012

Tuesday, March 6th Primary Election. We rarely endorse candidates in the primary elections, but this year there is a candidate running for the Ohio House of Representatives in the 16th District who we should support. If you live in Rocky River, Bay Village, Westlake, or FairviewPark, please vote for Cleveland Teacher, and CTU activist Todd LaVeck. We also encourage you to support school levies in your local communities.
Reminder: Continuing Contract – Tenure. To be eligible for a continuing contract for the 2012-2013 school year, teachers must have three years of successful teaching experience in the district, a professional (5 year) teaching license, and all official transcripts on file at the Board of Education no later than March 20th. There is no application or additional paperwork to complete.
OFT –New Officers. Delegates to the Ohio Federation of Teachers convention elected an entire slate of new officers, as four of the incumbent officers, including our own OFT 2nd Vice-President Veronica White, have retired. The new OFT President is Melissa Cropper from the Georgetown Federation of Teachers. The other newly elected officers are: 1st Vice-President Shari Obrenski from the Cleveland Teachers Union; 2nd Vice-President Lee Black from the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers; Treasurer Brian Kessler from the Berea Federation of Teachers; and Recording Secretary, Betty Evans from the Toledo Federation of Teachers.
In Union,
Tom Schmida, President
