CHTU Update - Oct 29, 2013 Voting Endorsements

Dear Colleagues,
Hope you are voting this November 5 (or earlier).  You have much more voice in off-year election because so few people go to the polls.
Our local has made only three endorsements:
-Cleveland Heights City Council - Jeff Coryell
-University Heights City Council - Sue Pardee
-Vote Yes on issue 81 - Bond Facilities

If you live in a different community see the link below for the endorsements from the North Shore Federation AFL-CIO to which we belong.  Endorsements cover many cities in Cuyahoga County and two items from Lake County. (link to North Shore endorsements)

It is not on our ballot, but our Executive Board voted to send money to support an effort in Cincinnati to fight against a ballot initiative that would privatize city employee pensions.  This effort, from a group outside of the state, could cause an infection statewide, if successful.   It is the latest attempt to privatize one more aspect of public employment.  We need to squash this miscarriage of civil service security in its infancy.   Imagine what the fat cats, who know so much about economics and the common good, would do if they got hold of our STRS money?  OFT is going to be deciding on Thursday to support last ditch efforts to defeat this measure as well.

In Union,

Ari Klein
CHTU President
