The end of the school year was a flurry of activity. The High School faculty voted to accept conditions around a new schedule. Our Security Monitors voted to put a Catastrophic Leave section in their contract that replicates the teacher contract. We are still trying to make sure that a few of our colleagues are recalled, Alternate Learning Centers are created in each elementary, Home Instruction as well as Before/After Lead positions are modified to reflect the work being done, and a host of other issues.
Summer is a great time to recharge our batteries for a new year. I hope that each you reads at least one education book this summer. My goal is to read Mercedes Schneider's new book "A Chronicle of Echoes: Who's Who in the Implosion of American Public Education." If you did not get a chance to read "Reign of Error" by Diane Ravitch I completely recommend it.
This past year, with all of the myriad of changes, OTES, OIP and everything else we were bombarded with, made it a huge challenge. I hope that next school year is a little calmer.
