 MICHAEL CARTER

To All Staff:

Our Cleveland Heights-University Heights family has suffered a terrible and sudden loss.  High School Security Monitor, and long-time Union officer and activist, Michael Carter passed away earlier today, January 22, 2016, as a result of cancer that was just discovered.

Beyond his work in Security at the high school both as a monitor and conflict mediation specialist, Michael filled many other roles.  He worked in after-school student support programs, coached basketball and football over the years at the high school and private schools, umpired in the summer for the city of Cleveland Heights Recreation Department.  He was an original and ongoing member of the Administration-Union Summit dating back to 1994, served as a member of our negotiating team representing Security Monitors for nearly thirty years.  Most importantly, he was a loving father, husband, and friend.

Michael always had an eager smile and a laugh for everyone.  He had a way of understanding problems from several different points of view that made him effective at getting to root causes and ultimately solutions without being judgmental.  He was well respected by colleagues and had a way of reaching students effectively.  Michael’s passing will leave a large hole in our community as his relationships spread far and wide.  He will be missed.

No info on arrangements yet.
