Our Issues

This letter of Understanding (LOU) is entered into by the Cleveland Heights Teachers Union (CHTU) and the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education (Board), collectively known as the parties, this __ day of February 2021.

Whereas, the parties recognize the COVID-19 pandemic has put the safety of citizens across Ohio at risk; and

Whereas, the parties have mutual concerns over students’, families’, and staff members’ health and safety; and 

Whereas, the parties further agree that this LOU shall be in effect for the third quarter while in hybrid learning for the 2020-2021 school year

On January 25, 2021 members were surveyed with 3 questions.  417 members responded.

Here are are the results

Analysis:  77% of members surveyed feel "Unsafe" or "Extremely Unsafe" returning to buildings without students present.

Analysis:  90% of members surveyed feel "Unsafe" or "Extremely Unsafe" returning to building with students before a vaccine is available.


Analysis: 73% of members surveyed feel "Very Safe" or "Somewhat Safe" returning to buildings with students after a vaccine is available.

Regarding Return to School In-Person - January 2021


The right decision to return to any in-person instruction during a global pandemic should only be made when it is safe and the possibility of students and staff being sent home is minimal.  Currently, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health has a stay-at-home advisory in effect.  It is unknown when the advisory may be lifted.  The decision to return to in-person instruction school should be based on the safety of our students and staff, not the decisions of other organizations or pressure

Letter of Understanding to the 795 Negotiated Agreement

Regarding Remote Learning 

This letter of Understanding (LOU) is entered into by the Cleveland Heights Teachers Union (CHTU) and the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education (Board), collectively known as the parties, this __ day of August  2020.

Whereas, the parties recognize the COVID-19 pandemic has put the safety of citizens across Ohio at risk; and

Whereas, the parties have mutual concerns over students’, families’, and staff members’ safety, as well as the imminent loss of in-person instruction.

We sent out a survey to our members about COVID-19 and working conditions.  We recieved 303 responses to our 15 questions, 4 of which were extended response/comments.
