CHTU Updates

Dear Colleagues,

We have several important updates for you.  Hopefully, this will provide some clarity.

Medical Mutual

You may have noticed on your Medical Mutual Dashboard that there is now a feature on your dashboard that says “Deductible & Out of Pocket (In Network).” There is an amount that says the maximum out-of-pocket is $6,850.00/ $13,700.00.  Although the feature is new, this amount has been in our contract for many years. Our plan has not changed since last year.  We have asked Medical Mutual to remove this from our dashboard since it just causes confusion.  The numbers that members

Dear Colleagues,

Some quick updates are below:

Flexible Spending Account:  If you have medical or other benefit costs that are not covered by our plans (LASIK surgery, orthodontia above $3,300, expensive glasses, deductibles, co-pays, or coinsurance), or have child care or elder care expenses (from a qualified provider) then you should consider enrolling in a Flexible Spending Account (IRS 125) for 2022.  You can have money deducted pre-tax from your pay and use it to cover these expenses.

The open enrollment will be from November 22 - December 3.  The documents were sent via school email from

Dear Colleagues,

As you complete your second PD day this year, and as we gear up for the second quarter, I know that you will all make it to Thanksgiving knowing you have done your best for your students.  If you have not already voted today please do so after work  before the polls close.  Cleveland Heights-University Heights is not the only community  with critical  BOE elections on the ballot.  Be sure to vet your local BOE candidates and support local levies.

We have been busy at our office negotiating LOU’s and preparing for a mediation for our grievance on substitutes.   Below is an

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are all finally settling into your routines as we approach the first progress reporting period  of the school year.  A week ago it seemed there was no chance we would shut down  or move to  virtual instruction.  A week later districts around us, as well as  our own, are making contingency plans in the event we shut down in person teaching and go virtual.

Covid Protocols

We have heard that there are many violations of the district covid protocols.  Please report violations on our Union covid form.   Once completed you can give these forms to your steward, and they

Dear Colleagues,

Hopefully, the end of the excessive heat is upon us and we can move forward with educating our students.  We hope that curriculum night was a success and you were able to meet many of your families.  We have many updates below so please read all the way until the end.  If you took coursework over the summer please submit your credit hours to HR by September 15 for salary credit. Also, if you are eligible for tenure please remind your supervisor to submit your name.  Thank you all for the donation of water bottles.  We had an amazing response to get water bottles in the hands of

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you have found some balance in this hybrid environment. The students that have returned seem to be adjusting, and hopefully, they are glad to be back in your classrooms.  If you can believe it, we are almost in the 4th quarter.  Somehow this school year felt neverending, and yet it moved on so quickly.  I know I am anxious for all this to end and just return to  “normal”.  So much has changed for all of us this year, and you adjusted like true professionals.

This month you will see the new negotiated insurance deduction from your pay.  This

Dear Colleagues,

So much has happened since our last update.  There were over 200 people watching the board meeting on Tuesday.  We have heard so many of your concerns and we are working daily in our office to address them with administration.  We appreciate all your feedback. Your safety and the safety of our students is our priority.

Unfair Labor Practice (ULP)

Last week we all received our salary notices for the upcoming 20/21 school year.  We were hoping that they were sent in error as salary advancements based on experience steps were not  included, but it was confirmed by Superintendent
