Dear Colleagues,

We are 5 days away from election day.  While it seems like we are always saying that an election is important, it has never been truer than it is this year.  Your vote counts, and your vote matters.  It is imperative that we reach out to all voters, and there are local organizations that need our help in the last campaign push before this critical election on Tuesday.  Here are some ways you can help:

Among these important documents are agendas for all Board of Education meetings which can be found here   BoardDocs are updated the day of a Board meeting.  All our members should regularly check these documents since they contain so much important information.  So

TUSH
CHTU will be hosting a TUSH (Teachers Union Social Hour) on Friday, October 7 at Boss Dog Brewing Company from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.  Please join us for a night of solidarity!

Dear Colleagues,

The new school year is here and that means that our new three year contract is in effect.  It is very important that you read your pay stub to make sure all of your deductions and your salary are  correct.  Any errors you find will need to be corrected ASAP by emailing Arlene Mohammadpour.  You can also login to the employee access center, located under the staff tab, and find your pay information there. Tomorrow you will receive  your first direct deposit notice via email.  Below are some tips for reading your pay stub.

There is a 2% raise effective with our first pay.

Dear Colleagues,

Convocation

You may have received a letter at your home address from Superintendent Kirby inviting you to Convocation.  Convocation will be in-person this year, and will take place at Heights High at 8:30.  

The second-half of Convocation day is an Independent Work Day.  This means that you can work as needed on the work of your choice from the location of your choice.  No meetings or Teacher Meet-and-Greets can be called during this time, and you do not have to report back to an administrator.

Essential Training

Last week BLT, DLT, Equity Task force members, and Ed Services received an email from district administration mandating  “essential training” on August 2nd and 3rd.  The pertinent  language in our contract reads as follows:

Members must be notified of the requirement to attend such professional development at least 4 months in advance which may be waived by the member. The details of any professional development will be provided as soon as possible. 

The district failed to give 4 month notice as required by the contract  so this training  can not be mandatory.  In addition

Dear Colleagues,

On June 21, 2022 we filed an Administration Union Concern because the district announced  that there would be 27 pay dates for the 2022-23 school year. We confirmed with the Payroll Department back in March  that there would be 3 months with 3 pay dates. 1st VP Underhile discovered that we did not have a 3rd month with a 3rd pay, but instead we would receive our 27th pay for the 2022-23 school year on August 28, 2023.  This meant that we would already have started a new school year, but our pay would not include negotiated raises and lane advancements until the September 8

I hope you have had some time to relax this summer.  We have some legislative  updates that affect teaching for all of us.  Please read below regarding these updates.  July is one of the months with 3 pays.  This means that the third pay of the month will not have any deductions.  

House Bill 616

It seems that the holiday Covid surge has been trending downwards and we hope this continues.  It would be nice to have some sense of normalcy restored in our schools. In the meantime we continue on with this exceptionally challenging year and continue to help our students excel.
